Birch bolete mushrooms, penny bun, red-capped scaber stalk and  on white isolated background
03 november 2022, Basse Ham, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, France.  In the forest, three Red-cracking Bolete have grown in a clump among the fallen leaves. Mushrooms are old. A fine white mold begins to cover them.

Boletes (Boletaceae) is a family of fungi, many of which are edible, although they should only be collected by experts since several species can cause non-fatal poisoning. The king bolete (Boletus edulis) is highly prized by chefs, particularly in Scandinavia

Calvatia excipuliformis (Pers.) Perdek. syn. Handkea excipuliformis (Scop.) Kreisel syn. Lycoperdon saccatum Schaeff. ex Fr. syn. C. saccata (Fr.) Morgan syn. L. excipuliformis Schaeff. ex Pers. Beutel-Stäubling Lycoperdon en sac. Fruit body 8–20cm high, pestle-shaped, head 3–12cm across, pale buff at first then brownish, outer surface of small spines or warts which soon disappear exposing the yellowish, papery inner wall of which the upper portion breaks away to expose the spores. Gleba purplish-brown at maturity; sterile base of sponge-like texture, brownish and occupying the entire stem. Spores olive-brown, globose and warted, 3.5–5.5µ in diameter. Habitat on waste ground, heaths, pastures and woodland. Season late summer to autumn but the sterile stalk and empty cup-like base of the head may persist for many months. Common. Edible when young. 31 october 2022, Basse Ham, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand Est, France. In a forest, a mushroom, a Boletus aestivalis, grew on ground covered with dead leaves. It's a big mushroom. The stipe is brownish. The cap of the mushroom is light coffee color. It is a good edible mushroom.

Bolete Leccinum scabrum (Fr.) S. F. Gray syn. Boletus scaber Fr. Brauner Birkenpilz Bolet rude, Brown Birch. Cap 5–15cm, hazel, fulvous or snuff-brown, dry but tacky in wet weather. Stem 70–200 x 20–30mm, white to grey covered with brownish-black scales becoming darker towards the base. Flesh white, very soft, watery, unchanging or flushing pale pink. Taste and smell pleasant. Tubes white becoming dirty ochraceous. Pores small, white then dingy, bruising ochraceous. Spore print snuff-brown. Spores subfusiform, 14–20 x 5–6um. Habitat with birch. Season summer to autumn. Common. Edible – not worthwhile. Distribution, America and Europe (source R. Phillips).
