Persicaria capitata is native to Asia and is commonly called pink knotweed, smartweed, Japanese knotweed, jump seed and fleece flower. Persicaria capitata is a perennial groundcover with an infinite spread. It has a dense mat-forming habit spreading by creeping stems. Primary bloom period is late summer to fall with pink flowers gradually fading into white color. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine - it has proved very effective in treating urinary tract infections and is widely used in China. It is often cultivated as an ornamental.
