The largest and probably most well-known gloriette is in the Schonbrunn Palace Garden in Vienna. It was built in 1775 as the last building constructed in the garden according to the plans of Austrian imperial architect Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg.\nThe front face bears the following inscription:\nIOSEPHO II. AVGVSTO ET MARIA THERESIA AVGVSTA IMPERANTIB. ERECT. CIICCLXXV.\n(Erected under the reign of Emperor Joseph II and Empress Maria Theresa, 1775.)
