One of Tirol’s true architectural gems is the splendid Cistercian Abbey of Stams, founded in 1273. The photo shows the interior of the baroque collegiate church. The altar screen is overgrown with thick tendrils, a “Tree of Life”, springing from the base of the altar with the figures of Adam and Eve ascends via the central figure of the salvational “Immaculata” to the crucifixion as a symbol of redemption.

Freising, Bavaria, Germany: twin towers of Freising Catholic Cathedral, also called Saint Mary and Saint Corbinian Cathedral (1205) - was the cathedral church and episcopal see of the former Diocese of Freising before it was abolished in 1803 and re-established in 1821 as the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and moved to Munich. Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, gave it the rank of co-cathedral. Pope Benedict XVI studied theology as Joseph Ratzinger on the Domberg /Cathedral Hill from 1946 to 1951, was ordained a priest in the cathedral church and later worked as a theology professor in Freising.
