At the base of the Inari Mountain at Kyoto Japan is the Fushimi Inari Shrine, one of the many shrines dotted in the mountain. Inari, who is traditionally the Shinto God of Rice, is worshiped at the Fushimi Inari Shrine by merchants and manufacturers for centuries because Inari is also renowned in history as the patron of business. What is iconic about the Fushimi Inari Shrine are the innumerable “Torii” gates linking all the shrines around the mountain. These traditional red gates, with black bases, are tightly packed in long rows, starting from the two dense parallel rows of gates known as the “Senbon Torii” which lead to the hiking trails at the back of the Shrine’s main grounds.

Was given to the City of Portland Oregon by its sister city Sapporo, Japan . Is named Goju-no-to  and is also referred to as the Sapporo Pagoda. Photo was taken on a foggy Autumn day.
