Kōraku-en (後楽園, Kōrakuen) is a Japanese garden located in Okayama, Okayama Prefecture. It is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. \nJapanese folklore sees the heron as divine, able to traverse across the three elements: earth, air and water; herons are often associated with wisdom and knowledge, as they are seen as observant creatures that wait patiently before taking action.

The picture depicts a serene nature scene. There is a grey heron standing gracefully on a rock on the edge of a tranquil pond. The heron's fine, long feathers, tall legs, and sharp beak are notable. The pond's water is a muted green, hinting at a gentle depth and possibly algae growth, which is common in still water bodies. There are large, smooth stones partially submerged at the pond's edge, helping to define the boundary between water and land. There's also a fish with an orange hue, likely a koi, visible near the surface of the water. The backdrop consists of lush greenery, including various bushes and plants, indicating a well-maintained, possibly curated, natural environment. The overall ambiance of the photo is calm and harmonious, showing a snapshot of wildlife coexisting peacefully.

The grey heron is a long-legged wading bird, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia, and also parts of Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but some populations from the more northern parts migrate southwards in autumn. A bird of wetland areas, it can be seen around lakes, rivers, ponds, marshes and on the sea coast. It feeds mostly on aquatic creatures which it catches after standing stationary beside or in the water, or stalking its prey through the shallows.
