This international landmark, as seen on the external public-facing door of the baptistery, was designed by Lorenzo Ghiberti (between 1425-1452) and is an icon of the renaissance. East Doors (Gates of Paradise) by Lorenzo Ghiberti on Florence Baptistery (Battistero di San Giovanni) in Tuscany, Italy. These doors consist of 10 panels depicting scenes from the Old Testament and were commissioned in 1424. Once completed, they were described by Michelangelo as being fit to be the 'gates of paradise'.
