Originally built by Archbishop Jens Grand, it played a key role in Bornholm's history. Notably, King Christian IV's daughter, Leonora Christina, and her husband were imprisoned there in 1660-61. The fortress was abandoned in 1743, and after years of decay, it was protected in 1822, preserving its historical significance.
