It is one of few remaining feudal Japanese castles that retains its main keep in its original wooden form and not a modern concrete reconstruction. Shachihoko are mythical half dragon half fish sea creatures that are said to bring rain. They were typically placed on the roofs of castles and the homes of samurai to protect them from fire.
