The caterpillars of the cinnabar moth (Tyria jacobaeae) are striped black and orange-yellow, a warning colour that is explained as follows: the caterpillars absorb bitter tasting alkaloids from food plants such as ragwort (Senecio jacobaea). The caterpillars become distasteful to birds as a result. The bright, contrasting colours are a striking reminder to birds not to eat them. The name of this moth comes from the colour of cinnabar or cinnabarite, a bright red common ore of mercury (mercury sulphide). The adult cinnabar moth is black and red. This is a close-up of cinnabar moth caterpillars feeding on the growing tips of common ragwort. Photos and videos of cinnabar moth caterpillars: .

Blue-spot Mantis Haptosquilla stoliura occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific in shallow coastal or nearshore reefs in tidal pools and among hard coral fragments in the intertidal area. The iridescent blue patch on the first maxillipeds is distinctive. The max. length of this species seems to be incertain. Some indicate 6.5cm as max. length, others 11.5cm. The length of this specimen is probably 10cm. \nThe ability of Mantis species to see circularly polarised light has led to studies to determine if the mechanisms by which their eyes operate can be replicated for use in reading optical information storage devices. \nTriton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia, \n3°54'41.05 S 134°7'18.205 E at 15m depth

This beautiful and elegant butterfly is a change from a pretty scary caterpillar, it takes a few days to process a caterpillar that was initially so frightening into a beautiful butterfly, that is the power of God that is extraordinary.
