Cesis, Latvia - June 15, 2024: The Victory Monument in Cesis is a monument dedicated to the victory of Latvian and Estonian troops in the Battle of Cesis during the Latvian freedom struggle in 1919-1920.
City center & pedestrian shopping are called Square Mathon. Named after Jean-Baptiste Mathon, architect of the reconstruction of Brest. It is between the two main streets Siam and Jean Jaurès, separated by the Place de la Liberté. Initially, it was a green space created by Mathon. It was redesigned in 1999 by the architect Bernard Huet who dug the space to allow Square Mathon to communicate with the Place de la Liberté. The site revealed the remnants of the ramparts of the old city: a stretch of paved road, a counterscarp, a remnant of the advance of the Saint-Louis gate, a moat.
