At about 1800 Thorn was under France rule and the France calculated tax on the sixe of the windows of the houses. The people of Thorn were not richt but were living in houses of rich people. The people of Thorn started to make the windows smaller or take them away. To conceal there renovating work they whitewashed the houses.
