Artist signed postcard by Arthur Thiele, over 100 years old. A two-seater German biplane has picked up a stork's nest from a thatched cottage. Arthur Thiel's humorous postcard pokes fun at the unreliability of the very early flying machines. The invention of the aeroplane by the Wright brothers in 1903 initiated an enormous flurry of activity. In 1909, this report is recorded: 'A New German Biplane – In spite of being inconvenienced by a heavy fall of snow, two German inventors, Herr Amerigo and Herr Thiele, succeeded in getting the biplane they have built at Leipzig to make several long jumps...' Arthur Thiele died in 1915, just after the beginning of the First World War.
