Istanbul, Turkey, 20/01/2020 - Many freight cargo transport ships anchored at the mouth of the Bosphorus waiting for permission to pass through the strait. Turkish Port authority must approve all ships which pass through the strait, and they require detailed inspection of paperwork and cargo before approvals are provided. It is not uncommon for ships to wait at the mouth of the strait for 3-4 days before the inspections are carried out and approval granted. In the mean time, ships have no choice but to wait in the Sea of Marmara, and often there can be 20-30 ships anchored in the area.
