Ely Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, is an Anglican cathedral in the city of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. Architecturally, Ely Cathedral is outstanding both for its scale and stylistic details. Having been built in a monumental Romanesque style, the galilee porch, lady chapel and choir were rebuilt in an exuberant Decorated Gothic. Its most notable feature is the central octagonal tower, with lantern above, which provides a unique internal space and, along with the West Tower, dominates the surrounding landscape.\nThe cathedral is a major tourist destination, receiving around 250,000 visitors per year.

This cathedral is the main church of the Diocese of Ely and is the seat of the Bishop of Ely and a suffragan bishop, the Bishop of Huntingdon. In 1539, during Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, the cathedral suffered only minor damage, but St Etheldreda's shrine was destroyed.

King's College Chapel And Clare College, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England – 18 March 2024. This photo shows details of Clare College in Cambridge. Construction of the college's buildings began in 1326 based on designs by architect Henry de Cicestre in the Gothic style. The colleges buildings feature decorative stonework, large windows divided by mullions, and tall spires topping turreted roofs. Built from stone quarried in the local area with Gothic Revival features added later, de Cicestre's designs emulate the aesthetic of England's early medieval architecture. \n\nThe photo also provides views of King's College Chapel, constructed between 1446 - 1515. Considered one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture in Europe, its designs by Henry Yevele and John Wastell include magnificent stained glass windows, ornate entranceways and a signature high vaulted ceiling. Over 500 years since its construction, both ClareCollege and King's College Chapel remain iconic examples of Gothic architectural heritage in Cambridge.

This church, the largest in Derbyshire, was built in the 14th century and the famous 'crooked spire' was added in about 1362. Although it was at first thought the spire was twisted owing to the lack of skilled craftsmen after the recent Black Death or Bubonic plague, it's now thought the twist is the result of the lead which covers the spire. Sun shining on the south side in the day causes that side to heat up and expand at a faster rate than the north side, leading to unbalanced expansion and contraction.
