The magnificent frescoed interior of the Basilica di San Francesco (Basilica of Saint Francis), in the medieval heart of Assisi, in Umbria. In the image, the transept and the central nave seen behind the high altar inside the Basilica Inferiore, with frescos by Giotto, Cimabue and Pietro Lorenzetti. Built in the Italian Gothic style starting from 1228 and completed in 1253, the Basilica, which preserves the mortal remains of the Saint of the Poor from 1230, is composed of the Basilica Inferiore (Lower Basilica) and the Basilica Superiore (Upper Basilica), perfectly integrated. Famous for being the homeland of St. Francis and St. Clare, over the centuries Assisi and the spirituality of its sacred places have become a symbol of peace, a point of reference for tolerance and solidarity between peoples and between the different confessions of the world. East Doors (Gates of Paradise) by Lorenzo Ghiberti on Florence Baptistery (Battistero di San Giovanni) in Tuscany, Italy. These doors consist of 10 panels depicting scenes from the Old Testament and were commissioned in 1424. Once completed, they were described by Michelangelo as being fit to be the 'gates of paradise'. The doors displayed are now a copy of the original, with those being displayed in a local museum.

However, due to the annexation of Rome to the Kingdom of Italy, the work was interrupted; it was only thanks to San Giovanni Bosco that construction could be resumed in 1880 and completed in 1887 by the architect Francesco Vespignani. Orvieto, Province of Terni, Umbria, Italy - 24 april 2023: Interior of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo - In the chapel of the Corporal, frescoed with the works of Ugolino di Prete Ilario (1356 - 1364) and other artists, there is the relic of the Eucharistic miracle that took place in Bolsena (1263) to which it is linked the institution of the Feast of Corpus Christi. Also in this chapel is kept and displayed the Tabernacle of the Corporal. Above the entrance to the Corporal chapel is the monumental organ designed and sculpted by Ippolito Scalza, while the sculptural work of the Pietà (or Deposition) is also by Scalza himself.
This international landmark, as seen on the external public-facing door of the baptistery, was designed by Lorenzo Ghiberti (between 1425-1452) and is an icon of the renaissance. The reliefs represent stories from the Old Testament. The visible heads are those of prophets. The doors displayed are now a copy of the original, with those being displayed in a local museum.
