Ares and Aphrodite - Pompeii, House of the Wedding of Hercules (or House of Mars and Venus).\nMars lifts the blue mantle of Venus, to admire her nakedness characterized only by a gold chain arranged in an X on her chest. A view of the stunning frescoes inside de apse of the Duomo of Spoleto, a medieval town in the Umbria region, central Italy. The frescoes, depicting the Stories of the Virgin, were painted by Filippo Lippi between 1467 and 1469. Ancient Roman fresco ( 45-79 d.C. ) from the Augusteum-Basilica, Herculaneum.\nAlcestis and Admetus. The oracle predicts the death of Admetus.\nAlcestis, in Greek legend, the beautiful daughter of Pelias, king of Iolcos. She is the heroine of the eponymous play by the dramatist Euripides ( c. 484–406 bce ). According to legend, the god Apollo helped Admetus, son of the king of Pherae, to harness a lion and a boar to a chariot in order to win Alcestis's hand.
