Monument to the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment.  The 54th Regiment was one of the first official black units in the United States during the Civil War.  The monument, constructed 1884–1898 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens on the Boston Common, is part of the Boston Black Heritage Trail.

This is one of several wooden eagles which originally adorned the façades of the original Grand Central Depot, which was built in 1869 by Cornelius Vanderbilt, the railroad magnate. The depot was later replaced by the current Grand Central Terminal, which was completed in 1913.\n\nThe eagles were designed as symbols of American pride and power, reflecting the importance of the railroads in the country's growth and industrialization.\n\nThese eagles are large, with wingspans of around 13 feet, making them prominent and impressive features on the terminal’s architecture.
