a photography of a lizard with a blue body and black spots, there is a lizard that is flying through the air.
Known as 'blue arrows', the males of this active species, sheering fast and low above water or perching on open ground beside it, are one of the most familiar dragonfly sights in our area.\nRange and Status: Found throughout our area, with the exception of the northern Scandinavia. one of the most common species.\nHabitat: Larger standing or slow-flowing waters, generally open and often with margins without vegetation, such as lakes, sandpits, rivers and canals.\nFlight Season: From the end of April to the beginning of September, most abundant from June to August.\n\nThis is a common Species on the described Habitats in the Netherlands.
Oriental mole cricket (Gryllotalpa orientalis) is a species of mole cricket in the family Gryllotalpidae. It is found in much of Asia and Australasia. It is a polyphagous pest, damaging crops by gnawing their roots. This insect is plump, yellowish-brown, and paler beneath. It has short filiform antennae, fore legs designed for digging, and a large, oblong pronotum. The wings project slightly from beneath the fore wings.

Tot 41-49mm, Ab 25-32mm, Hw 33-37mm\nA rather plain, medium sized skimmer that is common on running waters in the south. Males become totally blue, females are brown overall. Being somewhat featureless, it is most easily separated from similar species around the Mediterranean by exclusion.\nBehavior: Often perches on the ground or on stakes beside running water.\nHabitat: Mostly small streams, running ditches and seepages, preferring scantily vegetated sites more than O. coerulescens. Favors bare runnels in the North, e.g. in chalk or marl quarries.\nFlight Season: From April-September.\nDistribution: Common around the Mediterranean, range extends to Mongolia. Has expended northwards since the 1990s.\n\nThis Picture is made during a Vacation in Bulgaria in May 2018.

In Sardinia, a Machimus atricapillus rests on a plastered wall, its precise moment frozen as it snags a wasp mid-flight. A snapshot of nature's intensity.

Tot 50-55mm, Ab, 37-42mm, Hw 30-35mm.\nIdentification:\nThe characters of this clubtail are rather different . It prefers very large (lowland) rivers and may easily be overlooked. Populations can best be found by searching for exuviae on river banks.\nOccurrence:\nA north Asian species, with western outposts in large rivers such as the Rhine, Loire and Po. Common in large lowland rivers in eastern Europe, but staged a strong comeback in Western Europe in the 1990s. Now abundant in rivers such as the Rhine, Elbe and Danube, right down to their estuaries.\nHabitat:\nSlow flowing lower sections of large rivers with sandy beds. Larvae burrow shallowly in fine substrates with relatively high concentrations of organic matter.\nFlight Season:\nLate and protracted, compared with other Gomphus species, from early June to early October, with maximum emergence in June and July.\n\nThis is a scarce Gomphus Species along the large Dutch Rivers. This Picture is made along the River Waal, near “Slot Loevestein” in the Province of Gelderland.
