A spreading, mat-forming, short, almost hairless perennial. Stems erect, square, with a ring of hairs at each node. Leaves elliptical in whorls of 6-9, edged with tiny forward-pointing prickles. Flowers pure white, 4-7mm, fragrant, in lax heads; corolla lobes slightly recurved. Fruit 2-3mm, with hooked, black-tipped bristles.
