A Kazakh eagle hunter looking lovingly at his Golden Eagle at the Sagsai Golden Eagle Festival held on 17th-18th September 2023, near the small town of Sagsai, in the Bayan-Ulgii province of Western Mongolia. Set in the Altai Mountain range, the nomadic eagle hunters, dressed in traditional fur and embroidered clothing, gather to compete with their eagles, in various competitions that show the skill and bond between the hunter and their eagle.

The massive Steller's sea eagle can be found while touring in Hokkaido, Japan. The ice in this location is likely to have floated down from Siberia or North Russia due to glacial melting. These sea eagles are very characteristic, with their two-tone wings and legs. Their sharped, curved talons and beaks clearly display their status as a bird of prey. They are generally considered the heaviest eagles in the world. Here, I captured a portrait of one of these majestic birds as it perched on a snow pile and dramatically looked into the sky.

The Steller's Sea Eagle, Haliaeetus pelagicus, is a large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. This is, on average, the heaviest eagle in the world, as it averages about 6.8 to 9 kg (15 to 20 lb. Steller's Sea-eagle is the biggest bird in the Genus Haliaeetus and is one of the largest raptors overall. Sea of Okhotsk, Hokkaido Island, Japan.

One of these huge eagles sits a bit further apart from the group, with its talons turned away. We can only hope that this eagle feels as included as the rest.
