30 july 2024, Basse Yutz, Yutz, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand Est, France. It's summer. On the surface of a body of water, aquatic plants are emerging on the surface of the water. A Red-eyed Damselfly took the opportunity to land on it. The small dragonfly with red eyes is in profile. We can clearly see its turquoise blue and black abdomen. Its wings are folded along the body, translucent and veined with black.
Tot 33-35mm, ab 23-31mm, Hw 15-24mm\nThis sleek, pale blue damselfly is one of the commonest odonates in large parts of Europe. Males are usually recognized by the black U on S2 and two-spiked markings on the abdomen, but may be confused with the equally widespread but often darker more local C. pulchellum.\nHabitat: A wide variety of waters, especially still but also flowing, although generally scarce on peaty or clay soils. Favors the presence of aquatic vegetation.\nFlight Season: From April to September, but most common from mid-May to the end of July.\nDistribution: Europe to central Asia.\n\nThis is a common Species for the described Habitats in the Netherlands. This Picture is made in my Garden Pond in the Province of Flevoland.

A flower-spike of Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) growing in its typically wet, boggy habitat in central Scotland in mid-summer. The species has a long history of herbal use, traditionally being used as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, diuretic, and tonic since ancient times in druidic England.

Orthosiphon aristatus, commonly called Cat’s whiskers, is a plant in Lamiaceae family, native to tropical area of Asia. It is upright trunked, used as a traditional medicinal plant. The plant owes its name (Cat’s whiskers) to its four long white to pale purple stamens, which stick out, looking like a cat’s whiskers.

Tot 39-48mm, Ab 29-39mm, Hw 23-28mm.\nLestes viridis is easily noted for its vivid green color, pale appendices, large size and its habit of hiding in trees and bushes. It is the only European Species that lay eggs in living wood.\nOccurrence:\nWidespread and common in most of Europe; inexplicably absent until recently from Great Britain (where suitable habitat abounds). Benefits from urbanization, favoring garden and park ponds, and possibly expending northwards.\nHabitat: \nAlmost any type of standing or slow flowing water with bordering trees and bushes. Unlike other Lestes, does not favors ephemeral conditions (e.g. shallows, drying-out pans).\nFlight Season:\nThe latest Lestes; in central Europe seldom emerges before mid-July, but already in early May in Iberia. Abundant in august and September, persisting into November.\n\nThis is probably the most Common Lestes in the Netherlands.

Similar in appearance to the more common Emerald Damselfly. Willow Emerald Damselfly is longer than Emerald Damselfly, appears thinner and lacks the blue pruinescense. The dark bordered pale brown pterostigma is a key identification feature of Willow Emerald Damselfly.
