Spiraea, commonly known as meadowsweets or steeplebushes, is a genus of about 80 to 100 species of shrubs in the family Rosaceae. The many small flowers of Spiraea shrubs are clustered together in inflorescences, usually in dense panicles, umbrella-like corymbs, or grape-like clusters.

This moss covered lava field is in Fjalllabak region near the Rauðibotn crater in the Highlands of Iceland.   There are over 600 different types of moss in Iceland.  These mosses are about 4 inches deep and spongy to the touch.  The lava on which it is growing is about 1500 years old.
