Ye Olde Watling public house in Watling Street, in the City of London. Watling Street is an extremely old road used before the Roman invasion by ancient Britons and was originally paved by the Romans along the route from Dover to London, St Albans and Wroxeter and was one of the major highways of medieval England.The pub dates back to the 17th century and is thought to have been built by Sir Christopher Wren to provide refreshment for the workers constructing the new St Paul’s Cathedral after the Great Fire of London.

The Church of San Ginés is a Catholic temple under the patronage of Saint Genesius of Arles, and it serves as the seat of the parish of the same name in the Spanish city of Madrid. Its façades are located at No. 13 Calle del Arenal (north), No. 8 Calle de Bordadores (west), Plazuela de San Ginés (south), and Pasadizo de San Ginés (east), in the Centro district. The building was constructed in the mid-17th century, and along with the paintings and sculptures it houses inside, it forms an important historical, artistic, and architectural ensemble of the Madrid of the Habsburgs.

A statue of Captain John Smith in Bow Churchyard off Cheapside in the City of London. Captain Smith (1580-1631) was head of the settlement of Jamestown in Virginia. He was born in Blackwall, beside the River Thames and after returning to London in 1609-10 he died in 1631. The statue was presented to the City of London by the Jamestown Foundation of the Commonwealth of Virgina in 1960 and was erected here because it was near to the old site of Cordwainers’ Hall and Smith had been a cordwainer - a maker of shoes.

The bronze statue was created in 1880 by American sculptor Anne Whiteney (1821-1915). Samuel Adams (1722-1803) was an American Patriot who helped organize the American Revolution, signed the Declaration of Independence, and became Governor of Massachusetts. The Custom House Tower is in the background.
