The San Michele Bridge (1887) in Paderno d'Adda in Lombardy is considered a masterpiece of Italian industrial archeology. 266 meters long and 85 meters high, the bridge is linked to a legend according to which the designer Jules Röthlisberger, a Swiss engineer, committed suicide before testing for fear of failure. Röthlisberger actually died of pneumonia on July 25, 1911. The fact is that the bridge has been the scene of frequent suicides for years: from 2000 to today 50 people have thrown themselves down.
