Oslo, Norway: Oslo Cathedral ('domkirke') tower, once also used as a the city's fire watch tower, the flag on the spire's weathervane bears the date 1850 - main church for the Church of Norway Diocese of Oslo (evangelical Lutheran). The current cathedral was built in its place between 1694 and 1697. In 1848/1850 the cathedral was rebuilt according to plans by the German architect Alexis de Chateauneuf under the construction supervision of the German architect Heinrich Ernst Schirmer. When Chateauneuf fell ill in 1850, Schirmer commissioned Wilhelm von Hanno to complete the construction.
