Strobilanthes callosa (Synonym: Carvia callosa (Nees) Bremek) is a shrub found mainly in the low lying hills of the Western Ghats, all along the west coast of India. Its standardized Hindi name is maruadona (मरुआदोना) which it is called in the state of Madhya Pradesh where it is also found. In the state of Maharashtra, in the Marathi language, and other local dialects and in the neighboring state of Karnataka, the shrub is locally known as karvi (कारवी), sometimes spelled in English as karvy.
Nigella damascena, also known as Love-in-a-mist and Devil in the bush, is an annual garden flowering plant, which belongs to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. Native to southern Europe, north Africa and south-west Asia, it is found on neglected, damp patches of land. Its common name “Love-in-a-mist” comes from the flowers being nestled in a ring of multifid, lacy bracts. The flowers, blooming in early summer, are most commonly different shades of blue, but can be white, pink or pale purple, with 5 to 25 petals.

Snapdragon is a garden plant of the genus Antirrhinum, which is available in many showy colors except blue. It is called snapdragon because the flower resembles the face of a dragon that opens and closes its mouth, while in Japan it is called gold fish flower for the flower’s resemblance to gold fish. It is treated as an annual plant, because it cannot survive summer heat, although it is essentially a perennial plant.
