Malabar pit viper also called trimeresurus malabaricus is endemic to western ghats. It comes in different colors or morphs. This is a brown morph. The photo is taken about 6-7 inches away. These are quite venomous but not very agressive, though they can strike very fast. This is a wide angled macro photograph taken at 30mm focal length.
