A suggestive sunset view of the Trajan's Column, in the Trajan's Forum, and the National Monument of the Altare della Patria, in the historic heart of Rome. The area of the Roman Imperial Forums is one of the most iconic in Rome, visited by thousands of tourists every year, with the largest area of archaeological excavations in the world. In particular, the Trajan's column was built in 113 AD to celebrate and glorify the victory of the Emperor Trajan over the Dacian people and the conquest of Dacia, today's Romania. The national monument of the Altare della Patria, or Vittoriano, was built in 1885 in neoclassical style in honor of the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, between the north side of the Capitoline Hill and the central Piazza Venezia. Inside is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a War Memorial dedicated to all the Italian soldiers who died in the war. The Altare della Patria is the scene of all the official Italian civic celebrations, in particular the Republic Day on June 2 and the Liberation Day on April 25.
