Vilnius: St Anne's and Bernardinu Churches

Long ago in the middle ages, the Vilnius Cathedral was a place of pagan worship, as it was a large, archaic church where the old Baltic religion was practiced. In the thirteenth century, it was constructed into a cathedral when a king converted to Christianity. The king died and the church became a place of pagan practices once again. However, when Lithuania officially became a Christian country, this site became a Christian cathedral once again. It stands in honor of Saints Stanislaus and Ladislaus. The beautiful tower stands with the main church, whose architecture has many neoclassical elements. This means that it is a modern take on the aesthetics of Greco-Roman classic styles.

St. Anne's is a prominent landmark in the Old Town of Vilnius that enabled the district to be included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites
