An extensive stand of many Rosebay Willowherb (Chamaenerion angustifolium) plants, also known as Bombweed or Fireweed because of its capacity to colonise disturbed soils, growing in a forest clearing in central Scotland. Sometimes sown in modern times as a quick way to cover bare ground to prevent erosion, the species also has had many used around the northern hemisphere, among native peoples, as a food and medicinal plant.

Oenothera lindheimeri or Lindheimer's bee blossom, clockweed, or Indian feather, is a species of Oenothera but used to belong to the genus gaura.

The pink-flowered Rocky Mountain Bee Plant (Cleome serrulata) is one of the showiest wildflowers in the western parts of the United States. It is an annual plant with a pungent odor that can grow up to 6 feet tall. The blossoms are full of nectar and attract bees, butterflies and wasps. The bee plant blooms from May through September, depending on elevation, and produces fruit pods up to four inches long that droop downward from beneath the flower. Where it can find open ground, you will see mound upon mound of pink / purple rosebay willowherb. These flowers form licks of flame in large patches of tall, purple / pink flowers, often on waste land. Their early appearance on blackened bomb sites and burnt woodlands led to the name 'fireweed'. An alternative name is blooming sally. Rosebay willowherb is an early / pioneer coloniser, seen here on Mitcham Common, Surrey, England.
