A blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a bird in the family Corvidae This active feisty little feathered one is found in North America. It is resident through most of eastern and central States Western populations may be migratory however. Some populations have been found in Newfoundland and Canada. This pretty aggressive bird is found around human residential areas. The Blue Jay can be easily identified because of the blue with a white chest and underparts, and a blue crest. It has a black, U-shaped collar around its neck and a black border behind the crest. Sexes are similar in size and plumage. At least four subspecies of the blue jay are recognized today and each subspecies is very much loved by people and animals alike. The blue jay munches on nuts, fruits, seeds, and sometimes could even make a meal out of small vertebrates. What do Blue Jays and dogs have in common? They both like to hide their food sometimes for later consumption.
