Orvieto, Province of Terni, Umbria, Italy - 24 april 2023: Interior of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo - The Presbytery - The same Ugolino di Prete Ilario who worked on the frescoes in the Cappella del Corporale frescoed, with many assistants and starting from 1370, the Cappella Maggiore of the church (or presbytery). The frescoes depict Stories from the life of the Madonna, to whom the entire cathedral is dedicated. It is one of the largest surviving fourteenth-century cycles in Italy and dates from a few years after that of the Corporal Chapel. The frescoes of the Annunciation and the Visitation of Mary are late fifteenth-century remakes by Antonio del Massaro, known as il Pastura. In the chapel there is a large four-light window characterized by a remarkable stained glass window, the work of Giovanni di Bonino (1328-1334). In pendant with the fresco decoration, the window is dedicated to the Stories of Mary and Christ. The wooden Crucifix which is placed in the center of the chapel, behind the altar, is the work of Lorenzo Maitani, while the wooden choir is the work of various wood inlay artists headed by Giovanni Ammannati (starting from 1329).

The construction of the Valencia Cathedral in a Gothic style began in 1262. The Valencian Bishop Rodrigo Borgia (later Pope Alexander VI) came to Valencia with the painters Francisco Pagano, from Naples, and Pablo de San Leocadio, from Reggio in Lombardia, in order to have the Cathedral as radiant as the new art movement coming up in Italy, the Renaissance. This master work of the first Renaissance disappeared in the 17th century. In 1674 the Archbishop Luis Alfonso de los Cameros, decided to restore the whole chapel so that the silver altarpiece decorating the altar could shine better. In May 2004, started the restoration of the baroque adornment of the apse, during which the frescoes were discovered.

However, due to the annexation of Rome to the Kingdom of Italy, the work was interrupted; it was only thanks to San Giovanni Bosco that construction could be resumed in 1880 and completed in 1887 by the architect Francesco Vespignani. The magnificent frescoes by Giotto inside the Basilica di San Francesco (Basilica of Saint Francis), in the medieval heart of Assisi, in Umbria. Built in the Italian Gothic style starting from 1228 and completed in 1253, the Basilica preserves the mortal remains of the Saint of the Poor from 1230.
