Tubular, two-lipped, snapdragon-like, pink to pale lilac flowers in upright terminal spikes bloom throughout summer (late June-September) atop square stems. Flowers bloom bottom to top on each spike.

This is a bluestar (Amsonia tabernaemontana) which is a wildflower native to the USA that is in the dogbane family.  It is found from Kansas south to Texas and from Kansas east to New York and south to Florida.  It is also known as an eastern bluestar, blue dogbane, willow amsonia, woodland bluestar, or blue star.
