Buffalo Park is a 163-acre park located on McMillan Mesa in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. The park was created on land acquired in 1963 from the United States Forest Service. It was originally set up as wildlife park featuring a pond stocked with ducks and other waterfowl as well as a few native animals such as elk. By the time the park opened in 1964, eight bison were brought in to reside there. These bison gave Buffalo Park its name. The wildlife park lost money and the animals were removed after 5 years. Today Buffalo Park is managed as open-space and has become the crown jewel of the city’s park system. The park offers breathtaking panoramic views of the San Francisco Peaks, Mount Elden and the Dry Lake Hills. This panorama features the San Francisco Peaks and the golden hued grasses of the McMillan Mesa Meadows.

(Smelowskia ovalis) Small-Fruit Smelowskia is a native perennial growing low to the surface at Mount Rainier National Park. It can be found on the east side of the park between 7000-11000 feet on rocky and talus slopes. The plant has tufted stems with pinnated leaves. The basal leaves are very hairy with stiff whitish hairs. The flowers have 4 white, spoon-shaped petals in a raceme. The sepals are hairy.

Located in Coronado National Forest just north of Tucson, Arizona, the Santa Catalina Mountains are considered Tucson's most prominent mountain range. Vegetation varies from ponderosa pines on Mount Lemmon (the highest peak at just over 9,000 feet) to unique desert vegetation in lower elevations. Grasslands occupy one-third of Arizona, taking up some 24 million acres. They provide a unique habitat for wildlife and are part of a large and diverse network of grasslands found throughout the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. Semi-desert grasslands found in central and southeastern Arizona reach into Sonora, Mexico and New Mexico. Grasslands in Northern Arizona are similar to those found in the Great Basin and the Colorado Plateau in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. In the mountainous areas of Northern Arizona, grassland meadows can be found interspersed within the conifer forests. Hart Prairie is a vast grassland located on the northwest side of the San Francisco Peaks. Hart Prairie is in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
