Rome, Italy - May 12, 2018: The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is located in the Castro Pretorio district, near Termini Station and was built between 1879 and 1887 at the behest of Pope Pius IX who, in 1870, laid the foundation stone of the new building. The interior of the splendid Duomo of Gualdo Tadino, a medieval village between Spoleto and Gubbio, in the Italian region of Umbria. Built in Romanesque style starting in 1256, the Duomo or Cattedrale di San Benedetto (Cathedral of St. Benedict of Nursia) is among the best preserved major churches in the region. The interior of the church consists of three naves, a cross vault and a semicircular apse, decorated with religious frescoes. On the left in the foreground an ancient icon of St. Benedict. An important city since Roman times, Gualdo Tadino rises along the ancient consular Via Salaria, traced by the Romans. Its history runs throughout the Middle Ages and, despite having been partially destroyed and sacked numerous times and placed under the dominion of Perugia, this ancient Umbrian center still retains its medieval charm. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the quality of the olive oil produced in these lands.
