The artist who designed and created these stone lions - on both sides of the Széchenyi Bridge - was so proud that he claimed that if he could find fault with himself, he would get rid of the dog himself.. Legend has it that a boy discovered the lost tongues of lions, and as a result, the artist Marschalkó threw himself from the top of the bridge to his death.\n\nAs romantic as the idea is, many Hungarians may still believe in the myth, while the truth is the opposite - the Four Lions actually have tongues, they cannot be seen only from a pedestrian's point of view. Marschalkó continued to live into the 1870s, even years after the statue's appearance.\n\nLion statues, Budapest, Széchenyi Lánchíd, 1051 Hungary
