The plant grows to a height of 30-120 cm, with a basal rosette of linear leaves. The flowers are white, star-shaped, and borne in a pyramidal raceme. The flowers bloom in June and July. Ornithogalum umbellatum, commonly known as Star of Bethlehem, is a bulbous perennial. Leaves begin to droop and fade as the flower stems rise in late spring to early summer, each stem bearing 10-20 starry white flowers in an open, terminal clusters. Flowers open near noon and close at sunset or in a cloudy weather.
