Eurasian Whimbrel is a migratory wader bird belonging to the family Scolopacidae. Whimbrels have a distinctive appearance with a long, down-curved bill, which is slightly shorter than that of the similar-looking curlew. They undertake long-distance migrations, traveling thousands of kilometers between their breeding and wintering grounds. They are known for their impressive migratory journeys, which often involve stopovers at various coastal and inland sites along their migration routes. They face threats from habitat loss and degradation in their breeding grounds

Measures 38 centimeters long. Adults have long pink legs, a long black beak and an extensive white stripe that extends across the lower abdomen, neck and part of the head, which has a black upper part, as well as the nape and back. The legs alone measure around 16 cm and, when the bird flies, they are arranged longitudinally in relation to the body. It has habits and behaviors similar to those of the white-backed stilt (Himantopus melanurus), from which it differs in its black back.\nAccording to Hayman et al. (1986), is a species that presents sexual dimorphism. The adult male has a uniform black mantle and wings. The adult female has a brownish mantle and back, contrasting with the black of her neck.
