Ahmed Yasawi was born in Sayram in 1093, and died in 1166 in Hazrat-e Turkestan, both cities now in Kazakhstan. He was a Turkic poet and Sufi. The Mausoleum of Ahmed Yasawi is an unfinished mausoleum in the city of Turkestan, in southern Kazakhstan. The structure was commissioned in 1389 by Timur, who ruled the area as part of the expansive Mongol Empire.
