Stockholm, Sweden - October 6, 2012: Rosendal Palace (Rosendals slott), a Swedish royal pavilion on Djurgarden island. It was built between 1823 and 1827 for King Karl XIV Johan, the first Bernadotte King of Sweden. The palace was designed by architects Fredrik Blom and Fredrik August Lidstromer. Since 1913, the Rosendal Palace is a museum of the Karl Johan period and of the life of Karl XIV Johan.

The palace is the official residence of the current Norwegian monarch while the Crown Prince resides at Skaugum in Asker west of Oslo.\nThe palace is located at the end of Karl Johans gate in central Oslo and is surrounded by the Palace Park with the Palace Square in the front. In front of the castle is the so called Slottsplassen ('The Palace Square'). The building is located at the end of Karl Johans gate, is surrounded by 22 hectares of gardens. It serves as the king's residence, a place of state representation, the administration of the monarchy and also the most elegant guest house in the country. The building is a three-wing complex made of plastered brick. The Karl Johan monument is an equestrian statue by Brynjulf ​​Bergslien, in 1875.
