Proud cardinalfish
The Blue-eye Cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus compressus) is a small and colorful fish commonly found in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. It has a bright yellow body with blue eyes and a black stripe running horizontally across its body. The Blue-eye Cardinalfish is a nocturnal species and often hides in crevices and under ledges during the day. At night, it emerges to feed on small crustaceans and other planktonic organisms. Its small size and vibrant colors make it a popular subject for underwater photography and aquarium displays.
Ochre-striped Cardinalfish Ostorhinchus compressus (ex Apogon compressus) occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from Malaysia east to Palau in Micronesia and the Solomon Islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands and south to the Great Barrier Reef in a depth range from 2-20m, max. length 12cm, common length 8.5cm.\nThe nocturnal species is found in small aggregatations among or near mounds of branching corals. Ochre-striped Cardinalfish is a mouthbrooding species with distinct pairing during courtship and spawning. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, Indonesia, \n3°56'17.7941 S 134°7'10.2802 E at 2.5m depth

The Yellow Eye Cardinalfish, or Ostorhinchus moluccensis, is a small, colorful reef fish commonly found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Its bright coloration, with yellow eyes and a black bandit mask, make it a popular species in the aquarium trade. The Yellow Eye Cardinalfish is nocturnal and feeds on a variety of small organisms, including plankton and small fish. They are shoaling fish that exhibit social behavior and can be territorial. The species is an egg layer, with planktonic larvae that are important in predator-prey relationships and the food chain of coral reef ecosystems. Despite being a popular species in the aquarium trade, conservation efforts are necessary to ensure sustainable fishing practices and protect the marine biodiversity of coral reefs.

Speckled Damselfish Pomacentrus bankanensis occurs in the Western Pacific from Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean to Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef in the Eastern Indian Ocean and New Caledonia. Since 2004 the species is recorded from Tonga. \nAdults occur solitarily or in small groups in lagoons, reef flats, passages, and outer reef slopes, usually amongst coarse rubble or rock, feeding primarily on pelagic materials, such as copepods, isopods, and pelagic tunicates. Distinct pairing is observed. Males guard and aerate the eggs. \nThis juvenile specimen does obviously not camouflage, but the opposite: dramatic colouration, known as aposematism, is a warning: unpalatability and toxicity - both prey and predator get to live longer. In this case its just a good bluff.\nKraka Island, Banda Sea, Indonesia, 4°30'10.6682 S 129°53'17.6959 E at 4m depth
