Niland, California - April 17, 2016: Salvation Mountain is a man made hill in the Colorado Desert, north of Calipatria, northeast of Niland near Slab City, several miles from the Salton Sea. It is in Imperial County, California. It was envisioned and built by Leonard Knight who built it over 20 years. He built it in response to a message he felt he had heard from God. Leonard died about three years before these photos were taken. He was 82. This is a truck adjacent to Salvation Mountain. It is also the work of Leonard Knight and remains for public viewing.

Ludlow, California - May 04, 2014: Like so many other towns along Route 66, Ludlow has seen economic downturns since the advent of the Interstate highway system. Today, most people who pass by, come to explore it as a ghost town. The two abandoned trucks in the photo are parked permanently on an abandoned gas station. On either side of this abandoned gas station are two establishments that were still in operation at the time of this photo. One is the Ludlow Cafe and the other is the Ludlow Inn. The orange truck appears to have been part of the Ludlow Fire Department while the purpose of the green truck is not determinable. Route 66 runs directly in front of these establishments.
