The iconic Jewish Quarter of Rome, the oldest ghetto in Europe, is famous for the presence of hidden alleys and small squares, where it is easy to find small restaurants of Italian and Jewish cuisine, and remarkable Roman archaeological remains. The ghetto of Rome is located in one of the oldest districts of the city between the Campidoglio (Roman Capitol Hill) and the River Tiber. Built in the southern area of the ancient Campus Martius, the Theatre of Marcellus it was completed in 13 BC and formally inaugurated in 12 BC from the Emperor Augustus, taking its name from his nephew Marcus Claudius Marcellus who died in 23 BC. The remaining columns (center) refer to the Temple of Apollo Sosianus, built starting from 413 BC and subsequently expanded during the Dynasty of the Augustus emperor.
