On the West Coast an image captured in the evening along the Karamea Riverbank and Estuary Walk (45 minutes plus): An enjoyable evening stroll, beginning behind the Domain, or via the river access at the end of Wharf Road. Follow along the river down to the mouth. Tide permitting, you can check out the bird life and return through the estuary walkway, linking up with the end of Ray Street.

Located off Interstate 5 in Northern California, about 13 miles south of the state capital at Sacramento, the Stone Lakes Wildlife Refuge is home to thousands of migrating water fowl who follow the the 5,000-year-old Pacific Flyway. This shot was taken in summer with the water lillies in bloom. The sanctuary is part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and is a protected area. Birdwatching tours are available monthly.

Located few miles southeast of Cayenne and straddling the towns of Roura and Regina, Kaw marshes are surrounded on one side by the Atlantic Ocean to the north-east and by two rivers: on the North-Westside is Mahury River and on the East, the Approuague. This isolation has long protected from human interference. The territory of the reserve depends on the common Roura in its north-east and the Regina in its greatest part. Kaw village, accessible only by boat, is located 52 km from Roura and 80 km from Cayenne. This reserve consists mainly of a marshy area irrigated by Angelica Creek and Kaw River and a mountainous area which is one of the first relief experienced from the sea by the winds and is therefore one of the sectors wettest Guyana. This reserve consists essentially of a swampy area of savannah dotted with floating islands moucou-moucous. The Kaw marshes is known to be one of the last refuge of the black caiman.
