Nevado de Toluca is a stratovolcano in central Mexico, located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) west of Mexico City near the city of Toluca. It is the fourth highest of Mexico's peaks, after Pico de Orizaba, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The volcano and the area around it is now a national park. The volcano has a 1.5-kilometre (0.93 mi) wide summit caldera which is open to the east. The highest summit, the 4,680-metre (15,354 ft) Pico del Fraile (Friar's Peak), is on the southwest side of the crater and the second highest, the 4,640-metre (15,223 ft) Pico del Aguila (Eagle's Peak), is on the northwest.

Pillar Rocks are formed with three granite boulders which stand shoulder to shoulder creating an impressive sight. The vertical height of the rocks is almost 122 meters (400 feet) which adds on to their magnificence. These majestic formations, shrouded often in mist, rise sharply from the ground and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding lush greenery and valleys. The natural beauty and serene atmosphere make it a popular spot for visitors seeking to experience the scenic splendor of Kodaikanal.

The Altiplano (Spanish for high plain), in west-central South America, where the Andes are at their widest, is the most extensive area of high plateau on earth outside of Tibet. Lake Titicaca is its best known geographical feature. The Altiplano is an area of inland drainage (endorheism) lying in the central Andes, occupying parts of Northern Chile and Argentina, Western Bolivia and Southern Peru. Its height averages about 3,750 meters (12,300 feet), slightly less than that of Tibet. Unlike the Tibetan Plateau, however, the Altiplano is dominated by massive active volcanoes of the Central Volcanic Zone to the west like Ampato (6288 m), Tutupaca (5816 m), Nevado Sajama (6542 m), Parinacota (6348 m), Guallatiri (6071 m), Cerro Paroma (5728 m), Cerro Uturuncu (6008 m) and Licancabur (5916 m), and the Cordillera Real in the north east with Illampu (6368 m), Huayna Potosi (6088 m), Ancohuma (6427 m) and Illimani (6438 m). The Atacama Desert, one of the driest areas on the whole planet, lies to the southwest of the Altiplano. In contrast, to the east lies the humid Amazon Rainforest.

Surrealistic landscape in the mountains of the Western Alps, France. The photo was taken at La Casse Déserte. La Casse Déserte, is a barren, rocky landscape located at 2200 metres in the municipality of Arvieux, on the slope south of the Col d'Izoard. It is a mythical place of the Tour de France. La Casse Déserte, located at the entrance of the Queyras Regional Park, is a geological oddity: for more than 2 km the road winds between the limestone rocks, with boulders at their foot, standing upright like needles with their characteristic ochre colour. La Casse Déserte was protected in 1937.
