The Memorial to Robert Gould Shaw by Augustus Saint-Gaudens opposite the State Capitol Building on Boston Common). Robert Gould Shaw is seen leading members of the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry 1863. The sculpture was unveiled on May 31, 1897. the first civic monument to pay homage to the heroism of African American soldiers.
The Daguerre Memorial (1890) was created in memory of Louis Daguerre and to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of photography.  \n\nThe sculptor was Scott Hartley  (1845-1912.) Hartley used bronze and granite to execute this work of art. \n\nDaguerre’s invention of the daguerreotype method of photographic printing places him uppermost in the pantheon of the founders of the art and craft of photography. \n\nThe 11-foot-tall memorial is now located outside the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
