Mahonia japonica is an evergreen shrub, which has been extensively cultivated in Japan and is commonly called Japanese mahonia, although it is native to China. Fragrant yellow flowers in loose, spreading to pendant racemes bloom in late winter to early spring (March-April). Flowers are followed by ornamentally attractive grape-like bunches of small waxy fruits which mature to blue-black in late spring to early summer.

Coriolus hirsutus (Wulf. ex Fr.) Quél. syn. Trametes hirsuta (Wulf. ex Fr.) Pilát. Striegelige Tramete Borostás egyrétûtapló (tapló) Polypore hirsute Bracket 4–10cm across, 2–6cm wide, 0.5–1cm thick, single or in overlapping groups; upper surface covered in silvery hairs, concentrically zoned and contoured, whitish to yellow-brown or grey when young, greying with age. Flesh tough and leathery, white. Taste bitter, smell slightly of aniseed when fresh. Tubes 1–5mm long, white to yellowish. Pores 2–4 per mm, subcircular, white at first later cream, often tinted grey. Spores whitish, ellipsoid to subcylindric, 5.5–7.5 x 1.5–2.5um. Hyphal structure trimitic. Habitat on dead wood of deciduous trees especially on fallen beech trunks in exposed situations. Season all year. Rare. Not edible. Found In Europe (source R. Phillips).\n\nThis a common Species and is photographed in Flevoland in Autumn of 2022.

A handsome, carefree evergreen shrub with dense, spineless, thread leaf foliage on an upright, bushy form. The soft, narrow, dark green leaflets create a fern-like appearance. Bright yellow flower spikes appear in fall, followed by purple-blue berries. Use as a filler in borders and beds or as an accent.

Southern state freshwater wetland forest on a sunny evening in summer (July). The image was captured in Big Creek, Forsyth, (near Cumming) in Georgia (USA) with a full frame mirrorless digital camera and a sharp telephoto lens. The image is part of a large series of Georgia wetland. Most of the images were shot at 200mm and maximum aperture f/2.8 creating a very shallow depth of field resulting in defocused spaces suitable  for copy/text.
