These cute little fish, have to be the most popular tropical reef fish of all time. Scientific name is Amphiprion ocellaris, however they are more commonly known as Western Clownfish, Clownfish, ocellaris clownfish, false percula clownfish, Anemone Fish, or of course Nemo. They have a symbiotic relationship with the Anemone (Heteractis magnifica) they live in. Each species providing benefits to the other. The Anemone is poisonous/venemos to other organisms however the Clownfish uses it for protection. Underwater image taken whilst diving in Phi Phi, Thailand.
Anemonefish (or Clownfish) live in a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones. These little fish protect the anemone for predators like butteflyfish, and at the same time the anemone is an optimal refuge for clownfish.
