Lake Burley Griffin (the Lake) is Canberra's centerpiece, and a significant number of national institutions, parks and national public places are located on or near its shores and is an integral part of Canberra’s design and is a vital element in the plan for the nation’s capital. The Lake is approximately nine kilometers long and has a width varying from 300 to 1,200 meters.
